“One line of (my) research is the physiology and biochemistry of sea grasses in the context of climate change: how they react to various stressors that are linked to climate change.
…I look at marine life in regions where climate change is progressing fast, and also on the impacts of seawater desalination, because the significance of that is increasing due to climate change: more and more countries rely on desalinated water for meeting their drinking water supply, which has a huge impact on marine environments.
…We are looking at both the impacts of seawater desalination on marine life, and also the carbon footprint, and we are trying to provide governments and decision makers with advice on how to do things better.
…It needs to be done in a very sustainable way now.”
